The best time to visit China

China is large enough that there is no single best season. Spring (April to May) and autumn (September to October) are comfortable almost everywhere. Summer is hot and crowded in the major cities, while winter is best for the south — Yunnan and Hainan stay mild. If you are visiting the north, avoid the coldest weeks unless you specifically want snow at Harbin.
